Health unit coordinators are responsible for keeping a department running smoothly. They are a vital communication link between all service departments: physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, patients and visitors. They are also responsible for maintaining patient and unit records, ordering supplies and services, transcribing physician orders and requesting physician-ordered diagnostic tests and treatments from various departments and hospitals. In this program, learn to coordinate the functions of the patient care unit; develop skills to become a more effective communicator; and gain basic introductory knowledge of laboratory, radiology and surgical exams.
