Description We are recruiting a Junior Specialist to join our research lab in the Department of Cell and Tissue Biology. We study how RNA chaperones affect human gene expression in normal cells, cancers, and developmental disorders. We have a variety of projects including how RNA chaperones influence cancer formation, how RNA moves around in the crowded cytoplasm of cells, and connecting the molecular level function of RNA chaperones to their cellular phenotypes. The Junior Specialist will contribute to any or all of these projects. The specific role(s) of the Junior Specialist will include optimizing existing protocols, establishing cell culture experiments, genome engineering of transformed and stem cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9, assisting in ordering lab equipment and supplies, and assisting in setting up new equipment. Experience in the Floor lab will prepare the candidate for future work in molecular & cell biology including in vitro disease modeling, genome editing, high-throughput sequencing, RNA biology, and other research areas. This position is ideal for those looking for more hands-on research experience after finishing college. The previous two Junior Specialists have moved on to an RA position in biotech and an MD/PhD program. A minimum of a one year commitment is required although a two year commitment is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience with mammalian tissue culture especially of human stem cells • Prior experience in the design and assembly of DNA constructs (via restriction digestion and ligation, Gibson assemblies, Golden-Gate assemblies, etc.). • Prior experience cloning and isolating mRNA untranslated regions
